Partnership Models and Best Practices

Photo by: www.pikeped.com/Dan BurdenVarious partnerships have taken shape throughout Pennsylvania to gather momentum, support, and accomplish the planning and development of both large- and small-scale greenways. Partnerships can take many forms. Whether it be a partnering between a governmental agency and nonprofit, or a national society and state network, the purpose is the same, to create greenway networks in our communities that protect open space and other natural resources and provide connections between these natural features and other community assets.

  1. Great Allegheny Passage: Pittsburgh to Washington D.C. Rail Trail
    The Allegheny Trail Alliance is a unique group of seven trail organizations who have joined together to create and maintain the Great Allegheny Passage.
  2. Susquehanna Greenway
    The Susquehanna Greenway Partnership formed in November of 1999. Partnership members currently include an evolving network of local interests, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, business and industry. The span of interests in the partnership is extremely varied from natural resource conservation, land-use planning, economic development, recreation, and historic and cultural resource preservation.
