Featured Partnerships, Programs & Activities
Great greenways result from strong partnerships. In Pennsylvania, various partnerships have taken shape to gather momentum, support, and accomplish the planning and development of both large- and small-scale greenways. Partnerships can take many forms. Whether partnerships include government or non-profit organizations, the purpose is the same: to create greenway networks in our communities that both connect and protect natural areas and that provide transportation and recreation connections between community destinations.
All partners are working to create a statewide network of various types of greenways. Greenways with statewide and national significance, such as the Appalachian Trail, the Susquehanna Greenway, and the Schuylkill River Greenway, are referred to as Major Greenway Corridors, creating the backbone of a statewide network.
Achievements
Many new programs that compliment the development, education, and implementation of greenways have been launched throughout the state. In addition, many of the activities completed have assisted to achieve the goals of the greenway network. The following documents highlight some of the innovative activities, programs and achievements recently completed. Consider how your initiatives might include and build upon these efforts.
