The Statewide Greenway Plan envisions a greenway system made up of many types and levels of greenways networks woven together across the Commonwealth, linking hubs or destinations via linear greenway corridors.
STATE: A Greenways network covering long distances, linking major tourist destinations and traversing multiple county and regional boundaries, can be significant from a statewide and even national perspective.
COUNTY: A county greenways network provides a vision for greenways within a county setting, a framework for local greenway development, while simultaneously promoting opportunities for greenway connections to adjacent counties and larger regional networks.
LOCAL: A local greenway network looks specifically at greenway corridors within municipal borders and creates important community connections to locally significant destinations such as neighborhood parks and natural areas, schools, community centers and shopping centers.
All of these components together will establish PA's greenway system -- a system that will revitalize our communities, conserve and protect natural resources, and be enjoyed by current and future generations of Pennsylvanians as well as visitors to our beautiful Commonwealth.
